Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) stars Matthew Broderick as a teenager who fakes being ill to skip school and decides to go around Chicago and have fun with his girlfriend and friend. This film directed by John Hughes managed to have a total domestic grossing profit o$70,136,369 (Ranked number 10 on the yearly Box Office chart).

This film is still counted as one of the best in the 80's merely because it creates a sense of the every man doing what most students/ working people wanted to do- to skip a day and have fun. Zack Mandell, a contributor to Yahoo Voices created seven reasons why this film is a classic representation of the 1980's and why everyone still loves it. These include the nostalgia effect; parents and teenagers in the 80's reminiscing about their own adventures. thinking about typical teens in action; the film promotes the every man by the characters "Ferris is a suave, charming, but conniving extrovert. His friend is an introvert, nerdy, and very shy. The girlfriend is the sweet, but adventurous girl next door" (Mandall, 2013). He also commented on Ferris Bueller's Day Off as a comedy typical to the 1980's, from the attire, the slang used and the nuances caused by the characters in this film.  Of course, it also has a very cheesy musical number.

Ben Stein, the actor who played the Economics Teacher has said that "when John Hughes wrote, produced and directed Ferris Bueller's Day Off, he was writing about a human need as basic as the human need that Jefferson wrote about in the Declaration of Independence: the need to be free, and to pursue happiness. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness- very basic stuff. And I don't know that there's ever been a happier movie. It's a movie that you cannot watch without feeling really, really great."
